Hi Everybody,
Though you might be interested in our Easter 03 visit to the Coke Ovens near the ghost town of Cochran.
You get there by taking the E Florence Kelvin Highway east just south of
Florence Arizona as shown on the Map below.
At the end of the Kelvin Highway you travel another 22 miles on a good dirt road. This is the
"Track Finish" and "Track Start" yellow line on the map.

After wandering about a bit we finally got to the ovens.

Here they are a bit closer.
We figure they are about 20 feet high! (67K)
Just below the ovens there used to be a house.

You get across the river to the ovens by wading. We are close to the railroad tressel down river from the ovens.
crossing the Gila River (54K)
After exploring the Coke Ovens and coming back across the river we check out the tressel.

The tunnel is just long enough that all you can see at the center is the light on the tracks.
Exiting the tunnel at the end of the tressel (54K)
You can find some of the history of these ovens at the link below, but be warned some of the GPS coordinates are incorrect and we did not take their route to get there!
