4/29/06    Train into the Urubamba Gorge and Machu Picchu
5/1/06      Back in Cusco
5/3/06      Bus to Chucuito and Lake Titicaca
5/6/06      Visit Bolovia
5/8/06      Fly Home

The road to Machu Picchu starts at the river and winds to the top. Local boys run ahead of the bus on the way down cutting across the switch backs. They usually request a little reward for their efforts. It's fun to watch! (50K)

We returned to Cusco. Here is a pass showing different points of interest (51K)
The first of May was a holiday. Our guide was still able to find interesting things to explore. Here we watch the renovation of an above ground burial site at the local cemetery. (49K)

                               an Inca god who wanted us to take a picture with him (51K)

Later that day we received a blessing from a Paqo who called on the energy of the sacred mountains
                                and the Pacha Mama (mother earth) (50K)

It was a bit of a stretch for the Paqo but he managed to bless me too (47K)
After the ceremony we gave the Paqo gifts of tomatoes and lentils (49K)
The next day we drove to Chucuito and had our first glimpse of lake Titicaca (50K)
The Plaza at Chucuito had some impressive topiary or sculpted shrubs. (50K)
Chucuito also has a fertility temple.
                               The guide said parents do not encourage their daughters to hang out here. (49K)

On the drive to the village of Copamaya we stopped to see the potatoe harvest. (50K)

The waters of lake Titicaca, the 3rd largest fresh water body in the world. At 12,500 ft. (50K)
Reeds grow in great abundance in the shallow sections. (50K)
Reeds are used to make boats. (50K)
The reeds are also used to create floating islands! (49K)
We got to visit with the folks who lived on the island (50K)

On the way to Bolivia we stopped for the local livestock auction. A really busy place! (50K)
