After spending all night at the Cape Town airport and an hour getting through the Mauritius immigration, we finally arrived at Port Louis and had a nice dinner.
The following morning we reboarded the MV Explorer
We took a tour and saw an old colonial house. The most interesting part was the attic where there was this old victrola!
We toured a tea factory. These are tea plants. The leaves are cut every day during the summer growing season. Only the new leaves are cut.
The leaves are dried in these large trays. Warm air is forced up from the bottom.
The tea gets chopped, dried and cleaned as it moves along the many belts.
It is sifted into different sizes.
Some is made into teabags and boxed for retail sales.
After a long relaxing lunch we had a fast tour of a sugar cane processing plants. It was huge with massive gears.
These very large rollers crush the cane.
The next day we had a marine ecological discussion followed by a tour in a glass bottomed boat.
The fish were fun to look at and later we went snorkling to get a better view of them.
This is the obligatory shot of Mary checking out the Indian Ocean waters.
